PERSPECTIVES TO REMEMBER

side-laying

Rolfing® is not a technique. Rolfing® is a process. It is something that is experienced, felt. One client said, "You feel different...better... inside your skin." While each person's process is unique to him/her, people regularly say they:

  • feel looser or freer
  • feel more flexible/mobile
  • move differently
  • feel less stressed
  • feel taller, straighter
  • feel more grounded
  • feel increased energy
  • feel a lightness
  • don't feel the old aches and pains
feet

Rolfing® is a change process, allowing physical structure to literally change. I got 1/2 inch taller and changed 1/2 size in my shoes. That was over 20 years ago, and these changes are still present.

Because Rolfing® focuses on changing physical structure, it is not massage. Massage focuses on relaxing or relieving what's present. Rolfing® allows what's present to change

Rolfing® doesn't relate to the body as a group of parts nor a set of bits or symptoms to be fixed.

The seeming magic, and true power, of Rolfing® comes from knowing the body as a whole. All "parts" are interrelated, interdependent, and inseparable. Top balances with bottom; side balances with side; deep layers balance with superficial; front balances with back; and each major section of the body wants to be supported by what's underneath it. Rolfers work with these dynamic balances and supports. This allows the body to realign and rebalance itself and is the goal of Rolfing®.
